Art to love: Under $1000 favorites
My art wishlist is ever growing and now that I’m on a self-imposed pause to prep for my move, I’m sharing a few pieces I have my eye on.
Hello, sweet friends! I hope you all had the most amazing Thanksgiving holiday. Here in Charlotte I was joined at home by a friend for a fun two days of laughter and indulging in all things food, art and home decor. Truly, an amazing way to celebrate a weekend where we are all focused on what we are grateful for.
I mentioned this before, but am now serious (am I ever? lol) about a self-imposed art pause while I prepare to move. Even with a bit of notice, moving is so overwhelming and stressful and I want to spend the next few weeks editing and organizing my entire home to make the packing process easier for myself and the professional organizing packing service I’m using. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have my eye on a few beautiful pieces. Truly, my eyes are always open to seeing and finding beautiful things in everything from the changing colors of trees to home design to nail colors and of course, art.
Today I’m sharing a few pieces I have my eye on and the artist behind them. Hopefully you see something that inspires you or helps you check off that “perfect” gift for someone you love (including yourself). Let’s jump in:
1 The Green Vase | I’m a little late to the paper flower game and I know this may be a stretch in considering “Art” but I truly think about the creativity that goes into crafting these beautiful paper flowers and plants. I love my weekly jaunt to the farmers market for real flowers and at the same time, want to add a paper flower or plant to my home in the spaces that are a bit darker and/or less used like my guest room. I seriously love every creation here but the helleborus, foxglove and hollyhock are all on my wishlist.

2 Carolyn Monteilh | I have had one of Carolyn’s pieces in my cart for the longest. I love her use of color and storytelling through mixed-media collages. “Back Then, Over There” is absolutely my favorite piece of art by her. It’s one of those pieces you look at and just feel drawn into. With her pieces, I feel like you see something different every time you look at it which is the ultimate treat. Honorable mention to some of other pieces I love like The Very Best Way to Read and Ayoka's Golden Thread, both available on Black Art in America.
3 Nay Bellamy | I have seriously loved art that bled into the frame for forever and Nay Bellamy does a wonderful job of creating fun, color and flower forward pieces that include the canvas piece of art being painted into the frame. One of the reasons, in addition to loving her work, why she stays on my wishlist is because her pieces are always sold out. Like, always always always, no matter when or where you look. I found her via Pinterest and now stalk her website and the two galleries she repped at for new pieces. She has the most pieces on Liz Lidgett from what I’ve seen in the past.
4 Jo Tilker | Sydney born and raised, Jo takes such a whimsical spin on traditional still life art. Bringing together bottles of spirits, games, fruits and the best snacks, her pieces are perfect for any kitchen and/or dining space. I have my eye on two pieces: fruit bowl on a pink tablecloth and you and me, the perfect Sunday afternoon. Right now you can grab her pieces on a bit of a sale: use codes Prints20 for 20% off prints and Originals15 for 15% off originals.
5 Dierdre Patterson | Dierdre is a new-to-me artist based in Seattle. I found her through Lauren Pearce, an artist I’m delighted to have my home. I had been browsing through Deirdre’s work and was drawn to her use of shapes on paper but also the overall shape of her final pieces. I don’t think I have any pieces like hers in my home or on my previous wishlists. I just placed my bid for a piece she was offering through a pay-what-you-want model so I’m crossing my fingers to win and have an original piece from Dierdre in my new home.

Friends, that’s all for today! As always, I love nothing more than introducing you to contemporary artists that deserve more recognition than I personal can give. As you think about gifts this season, I hope you think about ways to add beautiful art, whether in a traditional form or different, to your life and the life of the once’s you love. Next up I’ll be sharing girls for the art lover in your life and another artist’s interview before year end.
Thanks so much for reading! Xo <3
